Default Nokia N900 Press Release today

Nokia Press Release today.......

Quote:
NOKIA PRESS RELEASE November 10, 2009

The Nokia N900 shipments have started
The Nokia N900 shipments have started

Espoo, Finland - The shipments of the Nokia N900, Nokia's latest mobile computer based on open source Maemo 5 software, have now started. The Nokia N900 will be available in retail stores in November with an estimated retail price of EUR 500, excluding sales taxes and subsidies.

"The Nokia N900 has generated a lot of interest since its public launch in August, which has been reflected in the device preorders," says José-Luis Martinez, Vice President, Nseries, Nokia. "What's exciting is the Maemo software, which takes its cues from the desktop computer and offers a full browsing experience like no other handset. We believe the Nokia N900 will be a very compelling device for people who are passionate about technology."

At the heart of the Nokia N900 is its powerful ARM Cortex-A8 processor and up to 1GB of total application memory. Users can browse the internet the way they would on any computer and keep dozens of application windows open simultaneously on the dashboard. The panoramic desktops in the Nokia N900 can be personalized with widgets, contacts and shortcuts. Pictures and videos taken with the 5Mpx Carl Zeiss camera automatically show where they were taken, and users can add their own description tags to make searching the photos even easier. SMS and instant messages are organized as chat flow and people can convenienty switch between the multiple conversation windows. The built-in 32 GB storage is big enough to store up to 7,000 songs or 40 hours of DVD-quality video, and it can be expanded up to 48GB with an external microSD card.

Nokia works closely with the developer community and has recently seen significant innovation happening with Maemo. As a result, people will be able to discover a wide range of games, utilities, themes, panoramic wallpapers and service plug-ins for photo-sharing and messaging for the Nokia N900 through Ovi Store and Maemo Select, starting later in the year. In October Nokia announced official Qt port to Maemo 5. This means developers can use Qt software to target the Nokia N900 and that applications can be easily ported to all Qt's supported platforms including the next Maemo 6 release as well as Symbian.

Cool

So then I reckon a lot of people are coming to the end of their contract or it has already ended.

Tell us what phones you are thinking of getting next...Will be good advice for others out there looking at the same plus can keep upto date on all the new ones out there.

Here is my shortlist so far with only 2 months left on my contract...

Nokia N900

Wanted this so badly when it was first mentioned for release and am still very interested in this. Not seen a great deal of new stuff released since it came out so not 100% if anyone has one let me know how you are getting on with it.

HTC Desire

This is the same as the Nexus One Google phone but with all the google crap taken off. It has a couple of things taken away to make the pricing better but nothing that is needed. Has a 1ghz snapdragon processor so is super fast and an AMOLED screen so shows colours perfectly. has a capcative screen so does pinch to zoom etc and this is my personal favourite at the moment.

These are my 2 frontrunners at the moment, let me know what you've been looking at

I've decided but I am going to wait until I can upgrade over the phone as I will get a much better deal tht way. I am getting the HTC desire, went into the shop the other day with the Mrs and had a play with one. It was that impressive that the Mrs is getting one too! She has moaned constantly since we last upgraded cos she got a SE C905 and moaned from day one that her's could do nothing compared to mine

Had 10 minutes with the desire in the shop and it truly is the best phone out there at the minute. Its amazingly fast, the screen is stunning and the android and HTC sense OS is a work of art. My Mrs was very taken with the live wallpapers too and when I touched the screen the pond rippled and she went Ooooooh The only slight downside of this phone is the camera but on the one I tried I would say it is very very slightly below the N96 which I think is a great camera. I love hacking my phones and making mine different to everyone elses and this is the great thing about android, its completely open source and totally hackable!

I should be able to get it for £30 per month with 900mins, unlimited texts and internet, free calls abroad and free calls to ther VF numbers on an 18 month contract.

Keeping an eye out just incase something else comes out but I think this is the first phone that can officially be called an 'iphone beater' Not that I hold the iphone in great esteem just seems thats where the superphone bar is at the moment.

I think the Nokia N8 looks a promising phone. It will have the next version of Symbian, Symbian ^3. The good news for consumers is there is lots of choice at the moment in operating systems, but Symbian ^3 really needs to make inroads into what Google are doing with Andriod.

Also the N8 is still a few months down the line so if you want something now you will need to look eslewhere. HTC have a couple of contenders.

The Sony Ericcson Xperia X10 is a driod phone with a decent camera if that is a mix you are looking for, or there is the mini due out soon.
