NO2 for Nokia N96

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Planet N96 understands that  O2 in the UK will not be handling the N96.

O2 are of course the sole carrier for the iPhone in the UK, and the decision not to stock the N96 may be seen as a way of preventing direct comparison of the two phones by its customers. (more…)

What is in the N96 box, tell us Nokia, please.

Friday, September 12th, 2008

For those without the patience to watch the N96 unboxing video here is a little image of what is shipping with the N96. Nice to get a car charger (but then for £535, you might expect all the bells and whistles.

This is from Nokia UK. Interestingly, there is no video out cable showing here, although it is listed on other Nokia sites.

Lucky Face the Task Winners to get added bonus

The Nokia Blog report that those people who are expecting one of the 96 limited edition N96 phones will also be getting a little extra, a set of BH-503 Bluetooth Headphones, by way of an apology from Nokia over any confusion over delivery dates.

Free Bluetooth Headphones

This has to be a good geasture by Nokia, and the fact that people are starting to receive their limited edition N96 phones is a good sign that the N96 will be available retail very soon.

Have you got yours yet? If so post a review of the N96 and tell us what you make of the phone.

BBC iPlayer software for N96

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Its official. As Planet N96 suggested back in July, BBC have now confirmed that their iPlayer software will be released for the N96.

This updated version will allow programmes to be downloaded onto the N96, either via a 3G service or the built in wireless functions of the N96. This is obviously a much improved offering than is available for the iPhone, where it is only possible to stream the programmes, not save to view at a later date and the N96 will be the first phone to offer such a capability.

The software will be available to download from 1 October, and will give access to programmes such as Eastenders, Dr Who, and a wide range of Radio programmes.

Nokia gearing up for N96 debut

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Looking around the web this weekend and there are a number of changes to Nokia websites, in anticipation of the arrival of the N96.

The first is the N-Gage site where the N96 is now listed as a compatible device, and the application software is available for download (even though Nokia have adivsed that the N96 should come preloaded).

The other site that has changed is the Nseries one, where a number of tabs have been added to the bottom of the N96 page. The most interesting of these is the discussion on other application software that should be compatible with the N96 (although many are already running on other S60 devices).
