Face the Task storm brewing for Nokia?

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Over at The Nokia Blog a reader has complained that he won’t be getting his N96 any time soon, even though he paid good money to get it earlier.

I have reread the Face The Task website, but can find no inconsistancies there - in fact I read it that you wouldn’t get your N96 straight away, only a little time before it was released in your country, a comment I took to mean possibly only a few days before. This was the main reason I wouldn’t participate in the purchase through Face the Task, even if money was going to WWF; why pay for something when Nokia wasn’t even giving a release date?

Sure I entered the free competition, but that is another matter.

What do you think? Were those who have paid to get the N96 taken in by Nokia and is Face the Task misleading, and how much will Nokia and WWF suffer for bad press because of this?

Want one of the first Nokia N96 phones?

Nokia have today launched a site at Face the Task where you can bid to have one of the first 96 N96 phones, as soon as they are available in your country.

Head on over, and you might, just might be one of the lucky ones!

There is also the chance to donate to WWF to protect Nepalese Pandas, and in return you get

BBC iPlayer to come to Nokia N96?

iPlayer on N96

Obviously the N96 will have the DVB-H TV tuner, but not all (or many at launch) countries will have any stations broadcasting DVB-H TV. So what to do?

Well some reports say that the BBC is looking to add compatability for the N95 to its iPlayer platform (PC’s Macs and the iPhone can already connect), and if the N95 can, it would seem a logical step for the N96 to be able to too.

The report is via marketing ageny, Brand Republic who have stated that the Beeb’s head of digital media, Anthony Rose, has advised of this possibilty as a route to extend the availability of iPlayer.

The service is available for the iPlayer over the built in WiFi, something that the N95 has, and the N96 will have, so if you live in the UK, you may not be able to use the TV tuner, but may still be able to get to view BBC programmes.

Accessorize your new N96 with a new PoGo Polaroid Printer

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Polariod announced a while back that they were stopping production of their instant print film, having stopped selling the cameras last year.

They have now launched an instant printer that is compatible with most bluetooth or usb cabled digital cameras and mobile phones.

At 20mm H X 72mm W X 23.5mm D and weighing just 8 oz (without paper), this tiny printer will print full colour business card sized photos onto a sticky backed paper, for about 30p per print, using an inkless technology called Zink.

So if after you have splashed out on your new N96 (assuming Nokia ever release the N96!), you still have £99 left over, you might want to consider adding a portable printer to go with it.

Nokia Comes With Music for N96?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Nokia have today announced an update on the “Comes With Music” service, welcoming Warner Music Group to the service.

The “Comes With Music” service will enable purchasers of selected Nokia phones to have complete access to the Comes With Music catalogue, for a full year, and keep downloads in a permanent library on the phone, even after the first year of subscription.

Due to launch in the second half of 2008, the “Comes With Music” service would be a perfect accompaniment for the 16GB hard drive of the Nokia N96. Music will be available from Universal Music and Sony BMG as well as Warner Music.
